hmm... there is only ONE accepted solution? this may become quite a hunt for synonymes... may we know how many keys it contains? and i hope [Esc] is counted for one key?

skrealing: I can sense some bitterness in you ;-) The solution is string matched, so [Esc] does count for 5 characters, but it should not matter this much. There's only one issue raised by quangntenemy that is linked to the "bad" word that we should fix (just consider for example that the word is terrible instead of bad).
Appart from that there's only one or two keys that can be changed, the solution has the most logical ones.

yes, it should not be too hard to emulate at least some of the vim commands (you can put a list of them into the level text). horst35, who solved this challenge, told me that the number of possible solutions (with the minimal length) is pretty large.
deufeufeu: you said i should treat the word "bad" just as any other word (i think i have understood why). should i still do this, or is the issue fixed now? - skr.

I have now an answer which is working fine in VIM and has only 30 bytes.
When submited, I have a "Wrong" message and not a "Your solution seems probable, based on the length.".
So it might be possible that my solution is shorter than the one that the challenge expects.

Is it possible to get a little bit of clarification on what "Your solution seems probable, based on the length" means? Does it mean "your solution is good, but mine is better, so keep getting it shorter"? Or does it mean "your solution is the same length as mine, but you didn't pick the same permutation of movement commands as I did, so you're not done yet"?
And, judging by the "Wrong", you've got to end in normal mode?

I think it is only fair to mention that the editor must indeed have returned to command mode at the end of the input sequence. I do not know whether there are multiple solutions, but I know there are quite some variations possible with only one of those I tried having been accepted. Though I must say that the solution really seems to be the most canonical one, and I strongly believe there is no shorter one.

    It now doesn't sound like it must be in normal mode at the end. For me, it sounds like one can ignore which mode it is at the end, which (up to previous statements) isn't true.

  I'm not sure what you mean by "the most canonical" solution... Does that mean it favors basic commands (ex, `9l`) more advance ones (ex, `tf`)?
  (not that those particular commands are helpful here, but you get the idea)

solved it... and i must say it is not so bad at all (in its current form! the first forms were pretty bad imho). the problem is rather that much of what you find on the net is incomplete. the answer is really a pretty logical vim session. sorry everyone and deufeufeu particularly... there are better riddles here but definitely there are not few worse ones, too.

The challenge states that the 'Escape' key should be entered as [Esc]. What about other keys, like the 'Shift' key? Does that have to be entered with a special string or do you just enter the appropriate character-- a capital V, for example? And also, how do you enter the 'Enter' key?

I've now got several strings that trigger the "Your solution seems probable, based on the length." message, and the strings work as tested in a real live ViM editor, but I still haven't passed the challenge. Of course, my as yet unanswered questions above may have bearing on this...

I know this is the wrong numbered title for Very Important Mission, but this is where a majority of the relevant discussion takes place.

Anyhow, I have what seems to me, to be very close to if not the shortest length solution possible. I think if any strokes could be removed, they'd be at most one. But nonetheless there are many possible alternatives to the exact key strokes. Around how many "synonyms" are there to the actual solution? Is there any standard for this "canonical" solution spoken of? I can't tell if I'm at the point that I still need to reduce OR if I just need to be searching the synonym space. Sigh.

No response from my post nearly a year ago, so I'll try again. Anyone feel generous and want to talk more about the synonym situation here. I am on the almost lowest end of the "probable" range. Is the correct answer on the very lowest end of lengths that give "probable?"
