  I read somewhere on the rules that brute force wasn't allowed; is there a definition of brute force? I'm not sure on whether or not my methods of solving some of these problems are allowd or not.

  Here's a contrived example: Suppose the solution is a very large number. A brute force method would be to use a program to run through a loop starting with 0 and submitting every number of the loop to the site till the challenge is solved.
