This doesn't have anything to do with Rankk, or online challenges in general, but since this is an audience of people who like games and challenges, I thought I would mention this.
There is another challenge going on at the present time (from Nov 25-Dec 5) in Bonn Germany, between the world chess champion Vladimir Kramnik and a chess program called Deep Fritz 10. With one game to go, Deep Fritz 10 is leading Mr. Kramnick by 3-2, thus the best the world champion can hope to achieve at this point is a draw.
Of course chess computers have beaten world champions and Grand Masters in the past, but I still find it amazing that computer chess has come this far. Also, what makes it even more amazing is that unlike some of the special chess computers of the past (i.e. IBM;s Deep Blue), Deep Fritz 10 is a computer program that anyone can purchase and install on their home machines. Deep Fritz 10 is for multi-processor machines, and Fritz 10 is for single CPU machines. (although I'm not sure, I think Deep Fritz 10 can still be installed on single processor machines).
Anyways, for those of you who do not play chess, I strongly urge you to learn the game. It is a game that anyone can easily learn in an hour or less, but can take a lifetime to master. (Of course most of us will never get anywhere near that point)
