  Few problems:

  - There's no way to tell which town a labourer came from is there?

  - What if there are multiple results for the top/bottom labourer?

  - Solution format: topLabourerTownbottomLabourTown --> shouldn't it be bottomLabourer?  What if there is space in the town name, e.g. New York or NewYork?

  What a real bug that was ;)

  I've fixed the challenge and updated the relevant date files. It should make sense now.

  I still see a bug - or at least I believe it to be so.  Please delete this post if it's giving away part of the challenge on accident.

   

  ID's 16 and 17 don't seem to appear on the payroll at all for me.  Now if this were the case, they'd both be paid a wage of $0,  and therefore neither is paid the least.  I've additionally tried submitting the answer as the lowest paid person whose ID does appear on the payroll, but that hasn't given me a success.

    Yes, indeed. A few of the labourers were missing from the payroll.

    I've fixed the sql for payroll. Hope all is fine now ;)

  By the way, I am very glad to see these challenges up.  I've been doing hacking challenges ever since the glory days of Zebulun when overlord/pengo was still CinC there, and I achieved Pharaoh rank on pyramid back in late 2003.  I didn't visit the site for some time, and then when I tried to find anything about it months later, I could not remember the URL - nor could I find any references to a hacking challenge called "The Pyramid" on Google.

  In any case, you've done a great job with these new challenges, and I look forward to making my way up towards the top again.

    Yes, the glory days of the Zebulun. Been there and loved it.

    The Pyramid was "gone" for a considerable period of time. During this time, I kept in touch with silverknight on MSN. Once in a while we spoke of the good old days...and that helped to keep my desire alive to bring it back.

    Thanks for your encouraging feedback. A lot of people have contributed ideas and feedback: yai2k3, sapr0, valsa, shortbreak, i_need_help, justonp6, black0pz, etc, to help shape the site to its current state. It was strictly linear at the beginning - you must attempt challenge 1 before challenge 2, challenge 2 before 3, and so forth. I remember many didn't stay long because they were stucked after the first challenge - the original Challenge 2 is now challenge 11 (modified though). We then made a switch to the scatter model so you could solve any challenge on the same level. But that still wasn't good enough as we had no way of adding new challenges unless, as suggested by i_need_help, a new face of the pyramid is added. Bio and I worked on the idea and came up with the current solution...

    But I'm digressing...

  OK now I'm having problem with the wages :( Since there are multiple entries in the payroll I tried the total, average, minimum, maximum of the value but none worked :(
